Seasonal Secrets: The 3Ps of Gardening
It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day… and more importantly, a new season! And as we prepare to come out of hibernation mode, here’s the three important Ps you need to remember when it comes to getting your garden spring ready.
Prepare
Not quite as satisfying as that first lawn mow of the season, but just as important: maintenance! Following some pretty grim weather this year, your garden is likely to need a bit of TLC before the sun comes out to play – so check stonework, clean off the garden furniture and clear away those dead leaves from the flower beds!
Plant
Peas. Potatoes. Broad beans. Hardy vegetables like these favour the cooler soil temperatures of the spring – so get planting once the soil has thawed, those of you with green fingers! They’ll make a great addition to any BBQ when the summer finally arrives.
Prune
After a whole winter neglecting your garden, it’s time to start pruning! Before your trees and shrubs start to bloom, trim them right back to make way for more flowers and foliage, come summer time! When it comes to trees, this is your chance to give them some shape too, so get creative…
