4 DIY Ideas to Impress the Other Half This Valentine's Day

Feb, 16
By Real Deals For You |

With Valentine's Day rapidly approaching, we thought it would be a great idea to focus on a few simple DIY projects that will impress your nearest and dearest and help you gain some valuable brownie points - they'll also put a cheap card and a box of chocolates to shame in the process!

Here’s four to get you started…

Create a plant display

With spring around the corner it's a good time to start thinking about how you can improve the presentation of your garden this year. What better way to dazzle your other half by digging away at those tired looking borders and creating a thoughtful plant display.

We've got some great gardening tools and outdoor clothing to get you started, whatever your level of expertise, and then all you need are some beautiful perennials and a few border accessories such as natural stone or wicker edging, iron picket fence panels or why not add a solar border light? Don't forget flowers grown in the garden last a lot longer than a dozen red roses and are far more romantic in the eyes of the team here at Real Deals for You.

Light up your kitchen

Kitchens can sometimes struggle to get natural light, so to counter this we would recommend adding some lighting. Under cabinet lighting looks great, is easy to install and often leaves the kitchen looking fantastic, so this would definitely be worth a try. Once you’ve finished adding the lights, you could even whip up a romantic meal for two so you can both enjoy your DIY efforts.

Make a coffee table using shipping pallets

Looking to put something quirky in your house or garden? Why not create a contemporary coffee table from a wooden pallet! This is a fun project that’s easily done with a few toolbox essentials - not to mention it's extremely cost effective, meaning you can also splash out on some other Valentines's Day gifts. If you have any wood left over, you could always inscribe a short love poem!

The video below is a great guide on how you can easily set your own one up:

Create a (temporary!) romantic mural

If you’re already in the process of decorating your home why not get a tin of paint and leave a personal message to your better half! There isn’t too much effort required and a little gesture like this is bound to put a smile on their face – and if they do hate it, all you have to do is paint over it earlier than planned!

Know your limits!

Whilst these four ideas are great in theory, it’s important to know your limits. If you’re not used to using power tools then we wouldn’t recommend diving straight in without reading the instructions and watching a few online guides – after all, no one wants to spend Valentine's Day in A&E!
